TIME FOR CHANGE

Dear friends and colleagues,

After 23 years operating Synergia Learning Center, and nearly as many before that with other organizations, it is time for Tom and Debra to step back. Life really does move in cycles, however, so this ending is also a new beginning: A big WELCOME to Wild Compass.

The founders of Wild Compass, Melanya Gonshorowski and Alex Nopola, will continue the Synergia tradition of meaningful programs for youth. Many of you will remember Alex as Synergia’s Ropes Course Manager and Lead Guide. Many of you journeyed into the back country with Alex and the other Synergia guides.

Tom and Debra are still here. We will serve in an advisory capacity for Wild Compass programs, supporting Melanya and Alex’s vision for outdoor experiential education programs. The ropes course will still be available, operated by Wild Compass Visit their website to see what they are offering in the way of ropes course and wilderness trips:        www.wildcompassnc.org

Tom and Debra aren’t just “retiring.” We are taking this pause time to assess how we can best serve in our new capacity. Likely it will take the form of written materials and advising, so that the skills and knowledge we have gained over decades of developing informal education programs can be shared widely. Stay tuned! There is more to come.
